One of Tony and Stacy's favorite places, seven-mile long Anna Maria Island
is situated south of Tampa Bay. Three tropical bodies of water touch lovely
Anna Maria Island: the Gulf of Mexico on the western shore and Sarasota Bay,
as well as Anna Maria Bay on the Eastern Shore. In addition, Anna Maria Island
is northernmost on a string of barrier islands that extend in a southerly
direction, the only other set of keys in this latitude aside from the infamous
Florida Keys. Surprisingly, this quaint key is host to three cities: Anna Maria
at the northern end, Holmes Beach in the center and Bradenton Beach at the southern
tip. Each city is easily accessible by any of our three drawbridges.
Anna Maria Island offers any boater good opportunities for bird watching, shelling
or just cruising and dropping the anchor even now and again. The sand here is some
of the finest and it has been reported that it is an avid castle builder's dream spot.
We usually head over to the Bean Point area if we are going to drop anchor. The bottom
is sandy but holds well. As always, I recommend both a stern and bow anchor.
It is rumored that some wild boat-to-beach parties are thrown in this area.
Do we need more details?
